The New Mexico Lobos will be in a rebuilding mode in 2012 with hopes that greater things will come. Bob Davie takes over as head coach of a program that has posted a 3-33 record over the last three seasons. Things will not be easy in Lobo Land, but Coach Davie is noted as being a great recruiter and fans must be patient as that foundation is established. New Mexico has a 22 game road losing streak which is the longest in the nation. Coach Davie will inherit 22 seniors, 11 which are fifth year players from former head coach Rocky Longs tenure. That in itself is a strength for the team. You always depend upon seniors for leadership and the Lobos need just that. Coach Davie will bring in 21 recruits to go along with the 50 returning scholarship players that he inherited. That lack of experience could be a weakness for the Lobos, if the injury bug hits. New Mexico has 7 returning starters on offense and 5 defensive returnees. Returning starters to watch on offense are B.R. Holbrook (QB), Lamaar Thomas (WR), Ty Kirk (WR), and Kasey Carrier (RB). These players will be depended upon greatly since the Lobos have switched to the Pistol attack offense. On defense, the Lobos have switched from the 4-3 defense to the 3-4 defense. That means that players like Dallas Bollema (ILB), Reggie Ellis (NT), and Joseph Harris (DE) will have to step up to carry the defense as they make the transition. The key to New Mexico turning around there football program is patience. Something that boosters and fans do not have much of. espnsouthwest.com/photos
